Amerikanarna får vänta på den nya iPAQ serien! [Skrivet av Makan Amini] 16/11-04 För en gång skull är det vi européer som får de nya iPAQ-modellerna först! Det har under de senaste veckorna skrivits en hel del om hx2000-serien här i Europa, andra sidan Atlanten har det varit näst intill knäpptyst. Det är naturligtvis mycket märkligt att HP valt att lansera íPAQ hx2000-serien i den här sidan av Atlanten först, företaget är ju trots allt amerikanskt. Det har inte heller dykt upp några djupgående förklaringar på exakt varför men klart är att man i Storbritannien nu kan köpa modellerna från HP.com! Vi kan alltid hoppas på att de snart dyker upp även i den svenska HP sidan. IPAQ hx2000-serien består av följande handdatorer. Ny version av Zire 72 kommer att finnas i silver! [Skrivet av Makan Amini] 15/11-04 Trött på Zire modellernas smurfiga utseende? Snart väntas en uppgradering av Zire 72 att lanseras, och den i silver! PalmOne Zire 72 Special Edition kommer enligt uppgifter att ha i stort sätt samma specifikationer men med den stora skillnaden på utseendet. Dock kommer den nya modellen även att finnas i blå färg för dem som inte tröttnat på det. Enligt PalmOne släpps modellen i slutet av november 2004, när eller om den ens kommer till Sverige finns det inga uppgifter om. Priset väntas bli oförändrat gentemot Zire 72 modellens. Trådlös kommunikation blir allt viktigare. [Skrivet av Makan Amini] 9/11-04 Idag har de flesta nya handdator- och smartphonemodeller antingen bluetooth, WiFi eller bådadera. Den trådlösa kommunikationen mellan enheter spelar en allt viktigare roll och de senaste dagarnas rapporteringar stärker den bilden. En ny europeisk kartläggning, redovisad under tisdagen visar en allt snabbare utbredning av s.k. WiFi-hotspots, platser där man med hjälp av exempelvis en handdator eller laptop, tillsammans med rätt hårdvara kan surfa helt trådlöst. Enligt dessa uppgifter skall det idag finnas närmare 27 000 Internet hotspots fördelade i olika delar av Europa. Dessvärre är knappt 70 % av dessa placerade i Tyskland, Storbritannien samt Frankrike! Tekniken blir dock allt billigare och priserna sjunker allt snabbare. En europé betalar idag igenomsnitt 50 svenska kronor för en timmes uppkoppling, en minskning med 11 % på lika många månader. I Sverige är priserna dock generellt sätt mycket lägre, på vissa ställen helt gratis. Men även om det i Sverige finns i förhållandevis få hotspots ser man en tydlig utbredning. Tidigare i år införde flera hotellkedjor möjligheten att surfa trådlöst i hotellrummen och under de senaste veckorna har flera företag dessutom visat intresse av att erbjuda tjänsten i transportmedel som exempelvis flygplan, något som dessutom redan förverkligats till en viss grad i andra delar av världen. Utbredningen av hotspotsen i all ära men under de senaste dagarna är det ändå bluetooth kommunikationen det pratats mest om. Version 2.0 + EDR heter bluetooth-uppgraderingen som väntas finnas tillgänglig någon gång under nästa år och bl.a. göra det möjligt att skicka exempelvis filer med hastigheter uppemot 3 Mbit/s, cirka tre gånger snabbare än idag. Trots detta kommer den nya teknologin att kräva mindre energi än förgående versioner! Flera stora handdatorföretag har visat stort intresse av 2.0 uppgraderingen tidigare under året. Treo 650 landar i Europa i februari. [Skrivet av Makan Amini] 8/10-04 För två veckor sedan bekräftades modellens existens officiellt och av informationen vi har nu att döma, kommer PalmOne Treo 650 att vara tillgänglig i den europeiska marknaden någon gång i februari 2005. Perfekt alla hjärtans dag present? Många hade kanske väntat sig att få se Treo 650 i Europa redan i år och det har naturligtvis spekulerats en hel del kring förseningarna. Idag stillade dock PalmOnes vd, Ed Colligam mångas nyfikenhet med en ganska odramatisk förklaring: When explaining the delay between U.S. and European Treo 650 distibution, palmOne President Ed Colligam recently said that the company couldn't ship the Treo 650 everywhere at once because of the need to partner with carriers to get the handset and services right for their individual networks. He told NewsWireless.Net, "There's an enormous amount of effort that goes to tying these things (Treos) to the solutions of any carrier partner." /pdastreet.com Väl i Europa räknar de flesta med att modellen kommer att kosta någonting runt 3000 svenska kronor. Qtek S100 väntas lanseras i mitten av november. [Skrivet av Daniel Gustafsson] 6/11-04 Snart lanseras den nya smartphonemodellen Qtek S100, en budgetvariant av populära Qtek 9090. Tidigare känd som i-mate JAM, kommer den nu att lanseras med namnet Qtek S100 på utvalda marknader, det är dock i dagsläget oklart om den kommer att kunna köpas i Sverige. Specifikationerna är i alla fall mycket trevlig läsning då den bl.a. kommer att vara utrustad med Intel Bulverde XScale PXA270 som körs i 416 MHz, vidare är den begåvad med 64MB SDRAM men även modeller med 128MB SDRAM väntas släppas på marknaden. Trippelbands GSM & GPRS 900/1800/1900MHz, en 2,8” QVGA skärm av TFT typ med 65k färger, SecureDigital och Multimedia Card kortplatser, en 1.3 megapixlars kamera som du även kan spela in MPEG4 video är annat kul man kan hitta i modellen. Världens första Palm med megapixel kamera. ____ _____ [Skrivet av Makan Amini] 28/9-04 Idag lanserade det asiatiska företaget Qool Labs, världens första Palm med över en megapixel kamera. Qool Labs, ett för det allra flesta okänt namn. Inte är det så konstigt heller då Qool QDA-700 blir deras allra första palm-smartphone. Då företaget under några år fokuserat på att utveckla multimedia produkter blir också QDA-700 en riktigt multimedia maskin. För vad sägs om en 1,3 megapixlar kamera, stöd för WAV, MP3 och MIDI ringsignaler och MPEG4 videoinspelning? Detta är ändå bara en liten del av vad modellen väntas ha att erbjuda. Palm lanserar Cobalt 6.1._ _____ [Skrivet av Makan Amini] 28/9-04 Palm OS Cobalt 6.1 heter PalmSources nya operativsystem till palm handdatorer och smartphones. Den nya versionen väntas bjuda på en hel del förändringar och den här gången är det smartphoneanvändare som kommer att hitta flest förbättringar. Operativsystemen i palm-smartphones idag saknar en hel del då de från början varit tänka för enbart handdatorer. Cobalt blir egentligen det första ”riktiga” operativsystemet för palm-smartphones. Men naturligtvis kommer även handdatoranvändare att hitta många förbättringar. Bland de kanske största förändringarna hör att operativsystemet stödjer VGA upplösning direkt och man slipper trixa med andra program för att lösa problemet. Dessutom kan man, precis som med den nya versionen av Pocket PC, skifta mellan landskaps och porträtt läge med inte mer än ett knapptryck. Annat nytt för Cobalt är att funktioner som bluetooth och WiFi äntligen finns inbyggda. Även SDIO är nu en del av operativsystemet. Förhoppningsvis blir det alltså nu mindre krångel med exempelvis SDIO kameror. Just kortplatserna är ju någonting som framförallt PalmOne haft stora problem med under senare tid. Men så var det som sagt smartphoneanvändare som kunde glädja sig mest över Cobalt: Palm OS Cobalt 6.1 now includes a standard GSM, MUX, and a new GPRS API designed to make it easier and faster for hardware manufacturers to create a Palm Powered smartphone. It includes an improved setup for simultaneous wireless connections: Bluetooth , Wi -Fi, GPRS, etc. It includes multiple GPRS connection management. It also adds standard support for NAND ROMs through an automatic backup and restore feature designed to prevent the loss of users' data when a device runs out of power, or when the user is swapping batteries. //Brighthand.com Cobalt kommer säkerligen att bjuda på fler förbättringar än så och vi väntar otåligt på en riktigt detaljerad lista med alla nya funktioner. Sist men inte minst kan vi också berätta att gränssnittet naturligtvis fräschats upp och redan bemötts av positiv respons. Många menar att det hela ser mer ”modernt” ut. När vi får se de första handdatorerna och smartphonesen med Palm OS Cobalt 6.1 är inte klart men troligt är att det kommer att dröja till mitten av nästa år. Casio utvecklar en rekordupplöst skärm! [Skrivet av Makan Amini] 22/9-04 Casio i Japan presenterade igår en handdatorskärm utöver det vanliga. Med en knivskarp upplösning slår den allt vi tidigare sett! Tänk dig att du håller en handdator med en QVGA-upplöst (320 x 240 pixlar) skärm i handen. Tänk dig att skärmen är normalstor för upplösningen, låt oss säga 3,5 tum. Utan att sedan förändra skärmstorleken ökar vi upplösningen till 640 x 480 pixlar. Genast har vi en superskarp skärm med ett riktigt högt dpi-värde, (dots per inch). Det är till skillnad från vad många tror dpi som styr bildkvalitén i första hand, för det är inte antalet utan hur tätt bildpunkterna sitter som fäller avgörandet. Tänk dig nu att vi behåller antalet bildpunkter men förminskar skärmen till 2,2 tums istället för 3,5. Nu pratar vi om en 368dpi skärm, liten men otroligt skarp! Det är en sån här skärm Casio nu utvecklat men om den kommer att hamna i någon handdator och i sådana fall när, vet vi ingenting om.
